About Doodlegraphs

All the pictures on this blog are completely free to use. Use it for personal or commercial reasons. I don't care. You don't really have to link back or show credit, but if you can, it would be nice, especially if you are posting it on the internet somewhere people might be searching for graphics.

The original files are much larger than the blog thumbnails, so you probably want to click on the picture before saving if you are doing something for print or a large project. If you are using it for the internet, you probably want to go for a smaller size whether you find a way to download it that way, or you open a file and save it as something smaller. I say that because load times.

As for photoshop... I'm not really sure how to save things as textures and what not and then provide it as a download on a blog. But if you are using photoshop textures or brushes, chances are you have photoshop. See tutorial below...

PHOTOSHOP TEXTURES and PATTERNS

Open file you want to create a pattern for. I use CS4 because I'm not really a professional to keep upgrading.

Go to Edit. Click "Define Pattern." Name your pattern, and save.

Then when you want to use it, open up your layers style and blending options box for the layer you want to apply a pattern to. On my photoshop, I just double click on the layer. I have no idea how else to bring it up. You can apply a pattern overlay, change the size and opacity... You can also apply a layer texture with bevel and emboss.

PHOTOSHOP BRUSHES

To create your own brush, open the file you want a brush for. It should be a gray scale or black and white item. You can do it to color photos, but it will show up as one tone as a brush. When it's ready, go to edit, define brush preset. Name it and save it.

EXPORTING BRUSHES AND PATTERNS TO SHARE

If you want to share your created stuff, go to edit, Preset Manager, use the drop arrow to decide what you want to save whether it's brushes or patterns or swatches, select what you want to export/save (use shift key or Control Key to select multiple images), and click save set. Most websites want you to zip the file to offer it for download. So when you save it, the easiest thing to do is create a folder for your file wherever you can find it, name it the same as your file, and put your file there. Then find the folder in your computer (like My Computer, Users...), right click it, and find an option to compress it. On my computer because I installed some crazy program, my only option is compress and email, where I can choose to save as a .rar or a .zip, I pick zip, and then I just cancel out the email set up because who uses Microsoft's Outlook? The zip is usually in the same folder my folder was in.

  1. I like the latest panels of Adobe cs4, which help me in performing some textures. HDR http://hdreditingsoftware.com/cs4/ plugins have been installed on cs4 version without any bags or lags, which are great too!
